EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR & COMMUNITY ART COUNSELLOR
Betty Phumzile Rakosa is the Executive Director at Lefika La Phodiso Community Art Counselling and Training Institute. She is a Community Art Counsellor, Educator, Facilitator and Trainer. Phumzile holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (Educational Management) from Potchefstroom University and a Secondary Teachers Diploma (Technical) from the East Rand college of education. She is a trained Community Art Counsellor and Trainer, trained at Lefika La Phodiso Community Art Counselling and Training Institute and Ububele – The African Psychotherapy and Education Trust respectively. She is also a trained facilitator with NQF level 5 to facilitate active learning using a variety of methodologies from Convergent Ideas. Phumzile joined Lefika in 1999 and has facilitated Community Art Counselling support groups for Lefika since 2003. Her role at Lefika evolved from being a group member to a trainee, later facilitator and trainer to Assistant Director and ultimately the current position (Executive Director). She has worked at the Department of Basic Education for 22 years, 5years as a Maths and Science teacher and 17years as an LSEN school educator and Head of Department. Her work included teaching, managing personnel, co-ordinate the School Based Support Team (SBST) and School Governing Body (SGB) secretary. She was the Ekurhuleni Metro Swimming convenor for the East Rand Sports Association for the Intellectually Impaired (ERSA II) from 2004 to 2007. In 2005 she served as the SADTU Katlehong Branch Executive (BEC) Education Convenor. She also served as a member of the Gauteng Provincial Education Labour Relations Council LSEN Task Team from 2010 to 2014. She has presented (weighting of learners) at the SADTU Education and Labour Conference in 2012. She also presented at the JPCCC -Psychodynamic Perspectives on Children in School Conference and Lefika La Phodiso Textile of the Couch Conference and Exhibition in 2015.
