Community Art Counsellors are all required to attend clinical supervision. This practice offers a space for the counsellors to meet in groups as peers and to debrief, discuss and better understand our work. Supervision sessions at Lefika La Phodiso are currently overseen by a psychologist, art therapist and drama therapist. They takes place weekly at our centre and form the core of our therapeutic work. Our supervision is supported by SACP, IPCP and SANATA.
“Supervision is a critical part of professional competence and identity,” says Rozanne Myburgh, training coordinator. “We spend our time really unpacking issues that comes up in our groups and also celebrating our successes.”
“It serves as a great learning opportunity for our Community Art Counsellors,” says Phumzile Rakosa, executive director. “It deepens their understanding of what they learned in their training.”
